The Challenge: Creating the World’s Largest Free-Spanning Dome

In a location where heat, humidity, and rainfall are constant factors, material performance must go beyond standard specifications. The ETFE system was engineered to regulate solar gain, improve energy efficiency, and maintain indoor comfort, all while withstanding the
intense tropical conditions.

Print Patterns, Shading & Illumination

To enhance climate control and aesthetics, a custom print pattern was developed to reduce
direct sunlight and provide optimal conditions for LED projection mapping. The result is not only functional shading but also one of the largest LED-integrated roof surfaces in the world,
turning the stadium into a glowing landmark after dark.

Sustainability and Environmental Impact

Sustainability was a core principle throughout the design and construction process. The ETFE roofing system plays a crucial role in the stadium’s environmental performance, providing natural lighting that reduces artificial lighting requirements by up to 60% during daytime events.

The stadium’s environmental systems work in harmony to create a building that not only serves its primary function as a world-class sporting venue but also demonstrates Singapore’s commitment to sustainable development. The rainwater collection system, integrated with the ETFE roof design, captures and processes all precipitation for use in irrigation and cooling systems.
